Familiarizing...

6 days into my new life in Hong Kong and am feeling very unfamiliar here.

Firstly its the cantonese; have been feeling like an alien simply becos I don't speak the language! Every meal and shopping time is struggling to speak and understand what the other party is saying...

Have learnt some basic cantonese phrases from the cantonese phrasebook and CD that my galfrens gave me, but can't really use them cos usually I'm trying to understand what the other party is saying... and boy they speak really fast! A conversation at the cashier goes something like this:

Cashier: WelcometoSevenEleven (enters purchases)nine-ninetydoyouwantabagwiththat?
Me: (Silence cos haven't grasped what she was saying, hands over money)
Cashier: Tendollarsyourchangeistencentsmmgoi.
Me: (Still too stunned to answer)

They really work with lightning speed here! It seems like they'll suffocate if they slow down a little... super hand-eye and mouth coordination... amazing...

Am trying to adapt to walking faster in Hong Kong too... the streets here are filled with lot of people walking very fast, especially in MTR and the streets in Central during rush and meal hours. There are endless streams of people intersecting each other here. I must have had a good workout in speed walking these days cos at the end of the day I feel so drained :P.

And most importantly I'm adapting to the new life living with Bernard... now that's what I call married life; when the responsibilities really come in!! I no longer can afford being the spoilt little princess with breakfast on the table when I wake up... if want breakfast, gotta remember to buy the day before.

Also gotta wash and fold own clothes, keep the whole space neat and tidy, wash up after every meal, ensure there is food in the fridge. Fortunately Bernard has been taking charge of the above but I better not push my luck :P

Today the movers are coming in with the rest of my stuff, so the rest of the day will be burnt unpacking then cleaning up :(

Then again no complaints cos I really appreciate this little space that we have called home. Together is the best place to be!
